You Must Know Some Hotkeys

Any KeyI was at the bank on Monday arvo, setting up Brig’s bank account, young fella, Stuart, behind the counter helping me. We chat about what Brig does. He tap tap taps away on his keyboard, swiftly maneuvering around his bank application , “IT consulting eh? Bet you know a lot of hotkeys.”

Why do people always assume that being in IT means you have to be the hotshot techo geek with the newest gizmos, the fastest computers, slickest mobile phones, know all the HOTKEYS!

My reply, ” Hotkey? err….you mean like how to move around on your application?” DOH!!!

Off the shelf.

My shelves broke - too much stuff So I’ve just set myself up with a shelf company. Feeling pretty important here being the director of a new consulting company. Doesn’t matter that I’m the sole body of the company – the director, the employer, the employee, all me! I’m sitting at the dinner table at home, kids in bed, just finished filling out some of the paperwork for the tax office, accountant, etc. and I thought, yes, I can do this, I’m on top of it. I turn to hubby sitting next to me (now, here’s a real director, been in business for the last 20 year, 40 odd employees under him, 2 successful companies to his name) and I proudly declare that I’m really savvy with this business thing. He looks up from his World of Warcraft, smiles and replies ” Good hon, its easy, just keep your expenses and other important accounting transactions on a spreadsheet and you should be right.” Yikes, I tell ya, I can program my life away on RPG 400 and throw me any question you can think of on Sales Distribution on JDE, but I can’t Excel Spreadsheet!!!
